When I found out that 20 minutes drive from Stockholm was heart shaped lake I was blown away. I packed my drone and went there with my friends to find out.
One of the well known symbol often used in every days life’s is heart. It doesn’t correspond with the real shape of the humans heart. Even so it’s widely accepted form and we like very much.
Usually we like natural shapes which looks exactly or are very similar to that. Me and my drone friends decided to drive there and see it with our own eyes. We cheeked on the map and get it visually confirmed. It looked good from the air and we decided to visit the place.
This tiny heart shaped lake was Hacksjön. If I had to guess it wasn’t wider than 300 meters (980 feet). To get the whole image from above we had to fly at least 400 meters (1320 feet) or maybe even higher.
It wasn’t easy to access the lake
Our friend with Mavic Pro 2 zoom version was first to fly. He was more experienced pilot with defiantly better drone than rest of the gang. He went up to to approximately 500 meters and said that 400 meters wasn’t enough.
This information put little bit press on me. I just had 10 flights so far. First I had to start from my hand, fly few hundred metes away from our base and then additionally 500 meters more up to the sky. Our base was tiny less than two meters wide road surrounded with tall reed and gras. It wasn’t just to lift and land without consider.
I succeeded to fly far away enough but not high enough. I knew that I will newer make it up to the 500 meters. From around 60 metes in the sky I took 360 degrees panorama photo as shown below. I had enough with time to return safely back to the home point. I had less then 10% battery left.
I will definitely come back here in the future and try it again. This time with more experience and better plan.
Second attempt
This is quick update for this story. I went there one more time almost a month later, September 11 2019. During the drive to location the weather changed and it started to rain. I decided to fly during the time when it wasn’t raining too much. Quick started from a hand and up in the sky. From around 160 meters I made a test shot. It was a hight enough for a few vertical panoramas to capture the whole lake. Then I flow back to my position and land it back in my hand. I guess third time would be more successful…
